# Install the Straddle plugin

> Add Straddle skills, Docs MCP, and API MCP to Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.

Install the Straddle plugin to help your agent plan, build, and test a Straddle integration. The plugin includes Straddle skills and connections to the hosted Docs MCP and API MCP servers.

## Before you start

Prepare the following:

* **Your coding client:** Claude Code or Codex with plugin commands available, or Cursor with team marketplace access.
* **Node.js 22.18 or later:** Required for the Straddle Wizard commands on this page.
* **A sandbox API key:** Get one from the [Straddle dashboard](https://dashboard.straddle.com) to use the API MCP. Docs MCP needs no key.

For Claude Code and Codex, set `STRADDLE_API_KEY` through your secret manager or shell environment before starting the client. Desktop apps must inherit the variable in their own process. Cursor's plugin has a field for the key in **Configure**.

## Install for your client

Choose your client and complete its steps. The Straddle Wizard downloads a released plugin, verifies its checksum, and registers it with Claude Code or Codex. Cursor installs through its team marketplace.

      <Step title="Install the plugin">
        From your project directory, run the installer and confirm its download and installation prompts:

        ```bash theme={null}
        npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest install --client claude
        ```

        The Wizard installs `straddle@straddle` in user scope, including both MCP server declarations.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Verify the installation">
        Check the installed plugin and the Wizard's verification result:

        ```bash theme={null}
        claude plugin list --json
        npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest status --json
        ```

        Confirm that `straddle@straddle` is enabled. In the Wizard output, find the `claude` entry in `clients` and confirm `plugin.state` is `installed` and `plugin.verified` is `true`.

        Start a new Claude Code session, then enter `/mcp`. Confirm that the plugin's `straddle-api` and `straddle-docs` servers connect.

        ```bash theme={null}
        npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest install --client codex
        ```

        The Wizard installs `straddle@straddle` and configures API MCP to read its bearer token from `STRADDLE_API_KEY`.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Verify the installation">
        Check the plugin, MCP configuration, and Wizard verification result:

        ```bash theme={null}
        codex plugin list --json
        codex mcp list --json
        npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest status --json
        ```

        Confirm that `straddle@straddle` is enabled and both `straddle-api` and `straddle-docs` appear. The API server's `bearer_token_env_var` must be `STRADDLE_API_KEY`.

        In the Wizard output, find the `codex` entry in `clients` and confirm `plugin.state` is `installed` and `plugin.verified` is `true`. Start a new Codex session to load the plugin.

  <Tab title="Cursor">

      <Step title="Import the marketplace">
        In the Cursor IDE, open **Add Marketplace**, then choose **Import from GitHub**. Enter the repository URL, set **Scope** to **Team**, and select **Import**:

        ```text theme={null}
        https://github.com/straddle-build/skills
        ```

        On Enterprise plans, a team administrator must add the marketplace. Cursor follows the repository's default branch when it refreshes the marketplace.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add and configure the plugin">
        Add **Straddle** from the imported marketplace. Open the plugin's **Configure** dialog and enter your sandbox API key in **Straddle API key** (`STRADDLE_API_KEY`).
      </Step>

      <Step title="Verify the installation">
        Confirm that Cursor lists `straddle-setup`, `straddle-plan`, `straddle-integrate`, and `straddle-test`, along with the plugin's `straddle-api` and `straddle-docs` MCP servers. Reload Cursor if the servers haven't appeared, then check that their tools load.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Check the connection

Ask your agent to use the API MCP's specification summary tool:

<Prompt description="Summarize the Straddle API specification." actions={["copy"]}>
  Use straddle-api's summarize-openapi-specs tool to summarize the available Straddle API specification.
</Prompt>

Expect a summary of the API specification. This verifies the MCP connection and specification access. Setup checks API key configuration separately.

API MCP connects to `https://mcp.scalar.com/mcp/d5d1b1c2-ae5b-432d-b795-4fcb31cfdedd`. Its `execute-request` tool runs Straddle API operations with your key, including writes. Keep your client's tool approval prompts enabled so you can review each request.

## Run Setup

In your project directory, select the sandbox environment and start the Straddle Wizard's Setup workflow:

```bash theme={null}
export STRADDLE_ENVIRONMENT=sandbox
npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest setup
```

Choose your client and **Auto** to run the workflow in your terminal, or **Manual** for a prompt to paste into your agent. Setup checks your project, CLI, SDK, environment, and MCP connections, then writes `straddle-setup.md` with the results and next actions.

## Install skills in another client

For a client supported by the skills installer, install the skills and choose your client when prompted:

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add straddle-build/skills
```

This route copies the skills into your client. Add MCP connections separately using [Connect MCP](/developer-tools/mcp/install).

## Update or remove the plugin

For a Wizard-managed installation, use the matching client name. For example, update Claude Code's plugin:

```bash theme={null}
npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest update --client claude
```

Replace `claude` with `codex` for Codex. Restart your client, then repeat its verification steps.

To remove the plugin and its marketplace, run:

```bash theme={null}
npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest remove --client claude
```

For Codex, use `--client codex`. To also remove the client-level Straddle MCP entries, run `npx @straddlecom/wizard@latest mcp remove --client codex`.

In Cursor, refresh the team marketplace to update, or enable **Auto Refresh**. To remove the installation, uninstall **Straddle**, then remove the marketplace if your team no longer uses it.
